Penelope — Fort Collins, Colorado

Penelope -- Colorado

Penelope is a “Mothership Hostess” at New Belgium Brewing Company, home of Fat Tire. We met with her to look at her life at 40 and how she feels about it.

On a typical summer evening when the Colorado sky stays dusky until well after 9 p.m., it isn’t uncommon for Penelope to not even make in the front door when she gets home from work; she heads straight to the neighbors gathered outside with cold beer and snacks, watching the kids burn off their ‘school’s out’ energy. Her neighborhood of 44 houses is home to some 40 kids and 25 dogs (give or take).

Being surrounded by her kids and all the neighborhood little ones gives Penelope a charge of energy – you can see it in her eyes when she talks about the camaraderie in her community. In a split second though, she’ll look down at the kids running through her house, and suddenly wonder ‘how did I get here?’

“I’m excited about turning 40 and feel more comfortable in my own skin than I ever have and feel like I really know myself, better than I ever have. Physically, I feel great…Sometimes I almost feel like I am still 18 years old, until a call from one of the kids or a quick glance in the mirror brings me back to reality.”
